Mills Mareales

El Rompido

They are industrial constructions of the S.XIX, of Mudejar origin, that are repeated along the margin of the Piedras River. There were three mills; Mill of Aceña or of the Bank, Mill of the Point of the Well and Mill of Legrete.

These infrastructures were an important part of the development of economic life in Cartaya. Of them, there is practically the living part of a tidal mill, the Molino de Legrete, whose milling capacity was four millstones.

This mill was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in June 2010. The building has a rectangular plan oriented along an east-west axis, whose southern and western façades are currently surrounded by a stream, a vestige of the original hydraulic system. The gate that filled the boiler was on the western facade, attached to the mill itself. It conserves good part of the walls in masonry and brick, cárcavos and arcade of the gate.

Nowadays due to the technological advances, there is none in operation, which has caused its abandonment and its subsequent deterioration.
